Dental Hygiene
Preventative dentistry is the key. Both Geoff and the hygiene team place this as a priority. It involves regular maintenance of the oral environment – cleaning, scaling and polishing of the teeth and supporting structures. Tooth brushing and flossing techniques are demonstrated and dietary counselling provided.
Periodontics
Periodontitis is a serious infection that damages the soft tissue and destroys the bone that supports your teeth. The teeth may eventually become loose and have to be removed. Treatment requires deep, thorough cleaning of the pockets to flush out the bacteria, so the gums can re-attach back to the teeth, shrinking the pockets and help prevent reinfection.
Root Canal Therapy
Also called Endodontic Therapy. If a tooth dies from infection or trauma, this procedure can be used to save the tooth. The infection or inflamed nerve is removed, the inside of the tooth is disinfected, instrumented and sealed with material of an inert nature. The tooth remains in the mouth as a functioning member of the dental arch.
Crowns & Bridges
A crown, also called a cap, are used to restore badly broken or weakened teeth. Made in a laboratory and cemented over the prepared remaining tooth, crowns give a functional and aesthetic solution.
Dental Fillings
When disease does occur tooth coloured fillings are used to repair the teeth and restore them back to normal function.
Dental X-Rays / OPG
We use digital dental x-rays in this practice which greatly decreases radiation. These high quality resolution x rays, identify a range of dental issues. Used judiciously, they are a powerful diagnostic tool.
Extractions
Removal of teeth – for space reasons eg; orthodontic treatment, infection or crowding. Wisdom teeth are commonly removed due to the teeth being impacted which may cause recurrent infections of the gum if not treated.
Dentures
Dentures are removable teeth constructed in the laboratory. Either part or full – they are made from a variety of materials. Suction helps hold the dentures in place, so they stick to the surface of the gums.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Dental Veneers
Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-coloured materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their colour, shape, size, or length.
Internal Bleaching
Internal bleaching is a method of whitening a tooth or teeth from the inside out. Teeth that have experienced trauma or had root canal therapy may discolour internally, therefore they may have a darker appearance than the rest of the teeth. To lighten the discoloured tooth, a bleaching agent is placed inside, making the tooth whiter. After the treatment is completed, your tooth is sealed to prevent further damage and staining.
Zoom in Surgery Whitening
Whitening procedures can be done in the surgery or at home. Zoom in-surgery tooth whitening is a procedure designed to lighten the colour of teeth using a combination of a hydrogen peroxide gel and a specially designed visible LED light. Results are immediate (up to 8 shades whiter in an hour), and because a dental professional is involved, the process is safe and reliable.
Take home whitening kit
Patients are fitted with customised plastic bleaching trays so treatment can be done at home.
Whitening gel is placed into the trays and worn in the mouth overnight for a week to 10 days or when desired results are achieved.
Speciality Dentistry
Sleep Apnoea and Anti-Snoring Devices
Oral appliances are one of the options that you can use to treat mild or moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, as well as Snoring. They look a bit like a mouth guard and are worn at night whilst sleeping. The guard works by pushing your lower jaw forwards opening up your airways allowing for less vibration and obstruction of the throat.
Occlusal Splint
An occlusal splint (Night Guard) is a horseshoe shaped piece of plastic which is worn over the teeth to protect them against damage caused by teeth clenching and grinding. They are also used to treat pain in the joints of the jaw that may have arisen from grinding at night.
Implants
Instead of removable dentures, implants – titanium post (like a tooth root) – are fixed within the jaw. The tooth part is replicated by a crown that screws into or cements onto the implant. Useful in many circumstances especially where untouched adjacent teeth are in the mouth.
Teeth cleaning & Oral Hygiene instructions
Our Dental Hygienist specialises in treating our younger patients. She makes cleaning, scaling and polishing teeth fun, and also demonstrates how to improve brushing and flossing techniques – all with help from Dorothy the Dinosaur.
Fissure sealants
Fissure sealants are a safe and painless way of protecting your children’s teeth from tooth decay. It is a coating which seals the chewing surfaces of the molars and premolars. The sealant forms a barrier that keeps food and bacteria from getting into the grooves of the teeth and releases fluoride for increased protection.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride therapy has been proven to have a beneficial effect on the prevention of dental caries. It strengthens the crystal structure of enamel making it more resistant to acid attack from fermentable carbohydrates.
Sports Mouthguards
A device worn over your teeth that protects them from trauma. Mouth guards are an important piece of athletic equipment for anyone participating in contact sport. Sports mouthguards can decrease concussion.
