What Is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

CDBS provides up to $1,158 per eligible child for basic dental services. This amount is available over a two-calendar-year period, starting from the year the first service is claimed.

The benefit is funded by Medicare and applies only to approved dental services provided by participating dental clinics.

Who Is Eligible for CDBS?

A child may be eligible if they:

• Are 0–17 years old for at least one day in the calendar year
• Are eligible for Medicare
• Receive, or have a parent or guardian receiving, relevant Australian Government payments (such as Family Tax Benefit Part A)

Eligibility is assessed automatically by Services Australia, so families don’t need to apply separately.

How the CDBS Limit Works

The $1,158 cap is shared across a two-year period—not per visit or per year. Families can choose when and how to use the benefit based on their child’s dental needs.

Once the two-year period ends, any unused balance expires and cannot be carried forward.

What Dental Services Are Covered Under CDBS?

CDBS focuses on essential and preventive dental care. Covered services typically include:
